You love your pet. Does he or she have maximum loss protection?
It is critical that you use all forms of identification to give your pet the best chance of being reunited in the rare event he/she becomes lost.
“I already have a microchip or tattoo, why do I need a license”? Do you trust strangers enough that they will know to take your lost pet to a vet clinic to get scanned for a microchip or to look up a tattoo? In addition, microchips and scanners can fail and tattoos can fade. Animal Services also commonly finds pets with chips and tattoos whose contact information has not been kept current over the life of the pet. A license coupled with microchips and tattoos give true “maximum protection.”
Pet licensing for dogs and cats is the law in Winnipeg and most major cities in Canada. Licensing adds extra protections for your pet including the ability for 311 operators to reunite found pets wearing licenses 24/7. They reunite approximately 700 pets a year!
Pets wearing current licenses are also given a free release once a year if impounded, where fees and fines are waived. Pet license revenues are the primary source of funding for Animal Services and all the things they do to help animals and people in our community. This includes care for lost pets, emergency response to house fires and police incidents involving animals, adoption instead of euthanization for unclaimed pets, low income spay/neuter programing and more! Like them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to see some of their great work!
