ARE YOUR DOGS WEARING THEIR TAGS?
One of the things we find frustrating is how many dogs are posted as lost, found or on the loose and they do not have any tags on. No collar, no phone number, nothing.
Think about it. Anything can happen and it happens so quick. A car drives by and backfires spooking your dog and your dog bolts. The wind blows open your gate. Somebody leans something against your fence or there is a pile of snow and now your dog can get over it and is running free.
One sure way to get your dog home fast when they decide to take themselves for a walk is to make sure they have their tags on at all times. Especially when you know your dog is a runner.
It is the law.
It is really important that your pet is licensed with The City Of Winnipeg. Not only will it save you money and your pet gets one free ride home (if they are wearing their license), but it is the law.
Please check out The City Of Winnipeg‘s website for more licensing information.
Tags mean nothing if your information is not up to date.
Please take the time to make sure your information is up to date with The City of Winnipeg, your vet as well as the tattoo and microchip places.
Additional tags.
Plus, while you are at it, why not add the rabies tag and a personal tag to your pet’s ID. The personal one to have your pet’s name and your phone number. Not only will all the tags help to get your furbaby home fast but it is a safety net to have a couple on just in case any of the tags fall off.
Sometimes the city’s phone line is busy and the finder is very busy and can’t wait. If the dog had their name and your phone number on a separate tag, the finder could call you right away.
If you find that having all those tags on are making too much noise, wrap the tags with clear tape. That should muffle the sound.
An additional way to get your dog home fast is to put your dog’s information right on his or her collar by using a permanent marker. Check it every once in a while to make sure it has not warned off and is still legible. Keep in mind, they still need their tags on. Once again, this is a safety net in case all the tags fall off.
Please watch your pets at all times. Their tags can get caught in things like decks.
